Farm Trip

CSA in NYC farms should offer at least one opportunity per season for their CSA members to visit the farm where their food grows. Here are some tips to prepare for a successful and stress-free farm trip that is as enjoyable for you as it is for your urban members.

Farm Trip Preparation

When preparing for the farm trip, core groups will help with some of the preparation. Typically some tasks that the core group manages are getting information out to members about the farm visit, signing up members, and organizing transportation to the farm.

The Farmer-Member Connection

CSA in NYC farmers have extra challenges in creating meaningful and supportive relationships with their members. Members will not be coming to the farm weekly to pick up their boxes, and usually the farmers will not be driving into New York City each week to make the deliveries. This distance requires both the farmers and the members to make a targeted effort at building and maintaining their connection. Following are some strategies for how to build a long distance relationship with your CSA.
