Karen Washington will be honored at the Fourth Annual James Beard Foundation Leadership Awards on October 27th along with Mark Bittman, Ben Burkett, Navina Khanna, and Michael Pollan.

Just Food's board and staff are celebrating the arrival this month of the organization's new Executive Director, Jasmine Nielsen. Jasmine comes to Just Food from Love Heals, the Alison Gertz Foundation for Aids Education. In her 15-year tenure as Executive Director, she built Love Heals into the leading provider of HIV/AIDS education in the New York City public schools.

Chilled Corn Soup


Serves 4 to 6

This soup, which can also be served hot, is wonderful made with water, but if you have a little extra time, it’s far better with corn broth. Not only does the broth enhance the flavor, but it gets the most out of the fresh corn, so nothing goes to waste. Simply put the stripped cobs in a large pot with some chopped onions, carrots, celery, and garlic, cover with water, and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, let it simmer for about 30 minutes, and strain.
