Harvest Home Farmer’s Market Office Intern/Volunteer
Just Food:
Our mission is to develop a just and sustainable food system in the New York City region by fostering understanding, communication and partnership among diverse groups concerned with farming, hunger, and sustainability issues. We nurture collaborative projects that develop community leadership, support the region’s farms, boost local food production, promote equitable food distribution, foster environmental stewardship and create jobs. Just Food’s four primary programs are The City Farms, Community Food Education, Food Justice, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in NYC.
*** This is an internship/volunteer position with Harvest Home Farmer’s Markets ***
Harvest Home Farmer’s Markets:
Harvest Home Farmer’s Markets, was founded in 1993 by Maritza Wellington Owens. The organization grew out of the need to increase access to farm fresh produce in low income neighborhoods. Harvest Home is committed to make farm fresh produce available to neighborhoods with limited access; to strengthen local communities by providing a place where residents can come together to share ideas; improve nutrition and support local agriculture.
Volunteer Internship Description:
Harvest Home Farmer’s Market is a small organization, but it is growing and needs assistance with outreach and promotion. With the addition of two new projects this season, additional help is needed to coordinate the organization’s weekly activities. Harvest Home Farmer’s Market needs an Office Support Intern/Volunteer to perform administrative and clerical functions. This type of work is integral to the organization’s ability to network with vendors, promote its markets, and reach out to the community.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Answering phones
- Preparing documents
- Data Entry
- Typing, Photocopying, etc.
Qualifications:
- Some college education
- Good communication skills
- Good Organization skills
Timeframe:
- Start date: June 16, 2008 End date: November 7, 2008
- 9-5 Monday-Friday; 9-3 Sunday (Hours flexible on all days except Thu. & Sun.)
*** Note: Above 20 hours/week, this position will be considered an internship.***
