How can you become an advocate for better food in your community?
Join Just Food's Farm and Food Action Team!
| What is required to become a member of the Action Team? |

Fill out and return the application form (or complete it over the phone)

Be chosen by the selection committee to participate in Just Food’s Action Team Training
-
Once Accepted:
- Attend 3 of the 4 Wednesday night advocacy sessions in June (6-8pm)
- As a trained Team Member, we will need you to help with the following:
- conduct at least 1 advocacy workshop (in conjunction with Just Food).
- join the Food Action team email/phone list and help spread the word about food and farm issues in New York as they come up.
- schedule a meeting to talk with your representative about food justice in your community or mobilize people to write letters to representatives about food justice issues in your community.

What does becoming a member of the Action Team mean for you?
Each member will:
|
- Develop skills to become an effective advocate for your community using real-life examples and guest speakers.
- Have access to the most up-to-date information about people and issues affecting our food and farms in NY.
- Understand the basics of how the policy process works on the local, state and fed levels and how citizen advocacy affects this process.
- Understand the steps in building a grassroots campaign: from ideas to action.
- Encourage other members of your community to get involved with food advocacy.
- Learn from other advocates by attending and leading workshops.
- Receive a copy of the Food and Farms Policy Toolkit. The Toolkit includes:
- tipsheets including information on writing letters, making phone calls and
scheduling meetings with elected officials
- a resource directory of elected officials, city agencies and organizations
