Just Food connects local farmers to direct marketing opportunities in New York City through three programs: CSA in NYC, The City Farms Markets, and Fresh Food for All.
Just Food makes these connections by matching farmers with neighborhood groups, providing resources and support for farmers, and organizing meeting opportunities for farmers, organizers, and members to share ideas, such as the annual CSA in NYC Conference, The City Farms Meet, Greet, and Eat, and Good Food Now, Just Food’s Summit on Food, Farms, and Community Health. Just Food also supports city groups with resources, technical training sessions, and workshops so that they can run independent, self-sufficient programs.
CSA in NYC allows you to:
- Sell your vegetables and other products directly to NYC customers.
- Get paid up front by members who commit to the entire season.
- Get to know the people who buy your products!
- Work with a core group that takes responsibility for managing outreach and other details of CSA administration.
- Have a stable and consistent market!
Through the Fresh Food For All program, you can:
- Connect with Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens, and other programs that have government grants to buy your produce!
- Get paid for the entire season up front.
- Sell larger quantities of each vegetable with less weekly variety.
At The City Farms Markets, you can:
- Sell your produce to vibrant, independent, community-run markets.
- Sell your specialty or ethnic items to diverse neighborhoods.
- Be a vendor, drop-off your produce, arrange to have it picked up, or hire a
local to sell it!
Just Food is currently developing new ways of partnering farms with institutions. If you are a farmer who is interested in working with us to create these, please contact us.
Apply now for CSA in NYC and Fresh Food for All for 2009!
In order to give farmers more down time to fill out the application, and to give Just Food staff and Farmer Advisory Committee a chance to visit applicant farms during the growing season, we are changing our application timeline.
For the 2009 growing season, we will be accepting applications until May 27, 2008 (that is just around the corner!). Just Food will then visit the applicant farms in early fall and make our final decisions in October of 2008. Then we will match the new farms with their CSA groups and Fresh Food for All institutions through the winter for the following season.
If you are an interested farmer, please contact us for more information.

Become an Additional Product Provider!
An additional product provider is usually a farmer who provides some products to a CSA that are unavailable from their CSA farmer. This provider is not a CSA farmer, but works with an already formed CSA group. Additional product farmers provide meat, eggs, dairy, flowers, fruit, honey and value-added products to a CSA in many different ways. Once the connection has been made between an additional product provider and the CSA group, the core group and the farmer can figure out the specifics of ordering and delivering. The ordering and delivering timing is usually flexible; depending on the products, it is possible to purchase additional products by season, on a weekly or biweekly basis, or only once or twice a season.
