Winter Share Options

The end of the regular CSA season has some of us pining for more. Don’t despair—you can get local veggies all winter long by signing up for a Winter Share. If you are currently a member of a CSA, check with your core group to see if your site is organizing a Winter Share. Due to the tropical storms in September, Winter Shares options this year are more limited than usual. The shares below are open to everyone (not just current CSA members), but they are likely to sell out quickly, so act fast!

Sang Lee Farm –limited shares available!

Distributes every 3rd week from November 22 through March 6 at: Dumbo CSA, Crown Heights CSA & Brooklyn Bridge CSA

Offering: Predominantly winter storage vegetables of carrots, beets, potatoes, etc. and limited field and greenhouse greens

Garden of Eve Farm

Distributes 6 Saturdays, from December to May 2012 in Williamsburg, Kensington Windsor Terrace, Bushwick and Glendale.

Offering: hearty winter greens (kale, collards, Brussel sprouts), winter storage crops (beets, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, rutabagas, cabbage, celeriac, daikon, onions, garlic, winter squash) and greenhouse crops (mesclun lettuce, bunched greens, baby kale, mizuna, mustards, bok choi, Swiss chard)

Shaker Mountain Canning Co. – SOLD OUT!

Distributes once a month, October through January.

Offering: winter storage vegetables and greens, fresh herbs, sauces and added-value products (pesto, babaganoush, tomato puree). In addition to the farm share, you will have the option to order holiday pies and other specialty items.

Winter Sun Farms

Distributes once a month for 4 or 5 months starting in December at sites throughout the city

Offering: Flash-frozen fruits and veggies, and one greenhouse item per distribution, all purchased from local farms. Frozen items including: tomatoes, peppers, raspberries, blueberries, broccoli, sweet corn, green beans, butternut squash puree, fall greens, edamame, cauliflower, fresh greens (pea shoots).
