MONTHLY SERIES

Throughout the year Just Food hosts different workshops that pertains to the development of your CSA. These workshops are helpful to new as well as existing CSAs.

All workshops are held at the Just Food office (1155 Avenue of the Americas between 44th Street and 45th Street, 3rd floor) from 6:00pm to 8:00pm unless otherwise noted. To RSVP for a workshop, please e-mail paula@justfood.org

Monday, September 12, 2011: Incorporating Policy and Advocacy into Your CSA - Explore possibilities for encouraging your members to be involved with food and farm policy issues.

Monday, October 17, 2011: Additional Products - Planning, sourcing and problem solving for additional product share options. The workshop will focus on fruit, eggs, and meat but other options will be mentioned as well.

Monday, November 14, 2011: Core Group Development II - Focuses on developing a smoothly working, cohesive core group  to ensure the long-term success of a CSA project.

Monday, December 12, 2011: How to Talk CSA/Flexible Payment Options- Give explanation of CSA benefits and limitations and basic ways to make CSA affordable to people of all income levels.

Monday, January 9, 2012: Outreach- Explores advice and strategies for recruiting members to join your CSA.

Monday, February 13, 2012: Tracking CSA Member Data - Gives CSA coordinators information about how to build and maintain a database, and the best ways to keep track of CSA member records.

Monday, March 12, 2012: Core Group Development Part I - Presents ideas for recruiting additional core group members, options for organizing your core group roles and thoughts on determining your core groups relationship with your farm.

Monday, March 19, 2012: Advanced CSA Management - Explores issues CSAs experience after their first year including: effective uses of administrative fees, member issues, and use of technology.

Monday, April 2, 2012: Successful Distribution - Prepares CSA coordinators to set up a successful distribution routine, with hints provided by experienced CSA coordinators.

Wednesday, April 18, 2012: Visiting the Farm - Provides everything you need to know to organize and conduct a successful farm visit, including hints about transportation from experienced CSA coordinators.

Monday, May 14, 2012: Volunteer Management/Coordinating Leftover Donation - Provides ideas on how to sign up and manage member work shifts and how to get members to understand and value the work requirement. We will also discuss strategies for donating produce left over at the end of your distribution.

Monday, June 11, 2012: Effective Communication/Handling Challenging Situations -  Helps CSA organizers develop strategies for effective communication between everyone involved in your CSA. We will also discuss ways to manage some of the interpersonal challenges that can come up.

Monday, July 9, 2012: Member Surveys - Discuss strategies for getting feedback through a member survey, as well as, for responding to member feedback. We will discuss mid-season and end-of-season surveys.

Monday, August 13, 2012: Community Building - Brainstorm ideas for ways to develop more community among your CSA members. We will also touch on compost options for your CSA.
