1. Register Today for Just Food’s Annual CSA Conference! We are pleased to have Jerry Cosgrove, Deputy Commissioner of New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and former Northeast Regional Director of American Farmland Trust, and Joan Gussow, Professor Emerita of Nutrition and Education at Teacher’s College , author of This Organic Life and founding member of Just Food as speakers at this year’s conference. Don’t miss this exciting chance to learn what is happening with CSA in New York City and the state of regional agriculture. 2. April Workshop- Effective Communication between Farmer/Coordinator and Coordinator/Member Monday April 9 th join us for a discussion of how to create effective communication between the various participants involved in making your CSA happen. Come talk about how to share information between groups and successfully address issues which arise during the season. The workshop will be here at Just Food’s offices ( 210 East 51 st Street between 2 nd and 3 rd Aves) from 6:00-8:00.
3. Community Chefs Enjoy cooking healthy delicious meals? Want to share your love of food with others at your CSA site? Just Food is looking for CSA members to join its team of Community Chefs. Community Chefs will learn, through a series of classes, how to facilitate workshops about local, seasonal cooking and eating; basic nutrition; fruit and vegetable identification; recipe creation; knife skills; and food storage and preparation. As a Community Chef, you will inspire and empower fellow CSA members to create delicious and healthy meals for themselves and their families.
Community Chefs are paid a $100 stipend per cooking demonstration workshop. The training to become a Community Chef costs $100, however, the fee may be paid in installments that are deducted from your stipend or it can be paid in full at the time of the training.

4. Real Dirt on Farmer John Screening The 92 nd Street Y, Just Food and Slow Food USA are co-presenting the film Real Dirt on Farmer John Tuesday April 17 th at 7:30. This critically acclaimed and much loved documentary follows the colorful John Peterson, a farmer, artist, and innovative thinker in rural Illinois who has struggled to redefine his family farm for over twenty years. The film will be shown at the Steinhardt Building screening room at 35 West 67 th Street. There will be a post screening discussion by Sherri Brooks Vinton, author of Real Food Revival: Aisle by Aisle, Morsel by Morsel, and Cara Fraver, Coordinator of Just Food’s Fresh Food For All program-moderated by Gabrielle Langholtz from Greenmarket.
