The City Farms project goal is to encourage
NYC community gardeners to understand and appreciate
the concepts of community food security, and
to be motivated to grow, distribute, and market
more food within their communities.
|
Just Food's City Farms program works to increase food production, marketing
and distribution via community gardens throughout NYC.
We partner with other NYC groups that have expertise in horticulture,
marketing, garden preservation, leadership development
and emergency food relief. Together, we offer workshops,
training materials, and networking opportunities for
NYC communities to grow more food.
Since 1997, The City Farms has grown to include 30 community gardens
representing all 5 boroughs.

Just Food initiated and coordinates
The City Farms together with Green Guerillas, Heifer
Project International, Cornell Cooperative Extension-NYC,
the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York,
City Harvest, GreenThumb, community gardens, and
emergency food providers throughout New York City. The project is opened up
to as many gardens as would like to join.
We would like as many people working in as many gardens
as possible to appreciate the concepts of community food
security, and to be motivated and skilled to grow and
market more food.
Our
GROW MORE FOOD Campaign aims to:
- Raise awareness of food needs and opportunities to contribute via gardens.
- Raise awareness of garden preservation needs and opportunities to raise
gardens' value as community asset -- as food providers.
- Encourage more food growing, marketing and distribution from community gardens -- with
a focus on low-income neighborhoods that currently have poor access to fresh
produce.

More Food, please contact JUST FOOD -- info@justfood.org.
