Community Food Education Volunteer Position

Just Food:
Our mission is to develop a just and sustainable food system in the New York City region by fostering understanding, communication and partnership among diverse groups concerned with farming, hunger, and sustainability issues. We nurture collaborative projects that develop community leadership, support the region’s farms, boost local food production, promote equitable food distribution, foster environmental stewardship and create jobs. Our primary programs are The City Farms, Community Food Education, Fresh Food for All, Food Justice, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in NYC.

Volunteer Description:
The Community Food Education Program works with our other programs to provide cooking demonstrations and resources through our CSAs, farmers markets, and food pantries. We are currently updating our Veggie Tipsheets. The Veggie Tipsheets is a resource with tips on selection, storage, and preparation of over 100 fruits, vegetables and herbs that grow in the NYC region. We are creating new tipsheets for eight vegetables and need to create new line drawings to illustrate the tipsheets. We are seeking an illustrator.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
· Provide eight illustrations of vegetables in the style of the previous work.
· Work with the community food education program to create simple illustrations to accompany the preservation tipsheets.
· Working from home is fine as long as we can facilitate meetings and exchange of artwork.

Qualifications:
· Illustration experience.
· Ability to work within a preestablished style.

Timeframe:
We would like to have a complete series of drawings by May 26.
